Sea salt is made through the evaporation of seawater, undergoing minimal processing (if any), which ensures it retains its trace levels of minerals such as magnesium, potassium, calcium and other nutrients.

In addition, sea salts tend to have larger crystal sizes which means they have less sodium by volume.

1. Keeps you hydrated
   Contrary to popular belief, sea salt is extremely beneficial in keeping us hydrated. The amount of nutrients in sea salt also satisfies our thirst for a longer period of time and keeps us holding on to the fluids for longer.
    
2. Reduces fluid retention
   With real sea salt, the balanced ratio of minerals, especially potassium and sodium, help release retained water. Eating real food and salting your own food with sea salt will help eliminate bloat and water retention usually associated with salty foods.
    
3. Balances electrolytes
   Electrolytes in salt include magnesium, calcium, potassium, and sodium all of which are beneficial for muscle, brain and heart health. Instead of the typical sugar-filled electrolyte drinks you can find at the supermarket, try adding sea salt to water with a squeeze of lemon juice.
    
4. Improves digestion
   The salivary amylase, an enzyme which helps break down carbohydrates in the saliva, is activated by the flavour of salt. Salt also plays a huge role in making hydrochloric acid, which is secreted in the stomach for the breakdown of food, especially protein.
